X JAPAN's SUGIZO Gets Visa To Perform At Coachella + Holograms Of Former Members To Be Used
Earlier this week, it seemed unlikely that SUGIZO would be able to join X JAPAN on its Coachellastage this weekend due to visa issues. It has now been confirmed that SUGIZO will in fact be able to perform this weekend at Coachella.
SUGIZO had applied for a visa to be able to come to the US to perform at Coachella. Delays in the process made it unlikely that he would get his visa in time to travel to the country. The band had already lined up a backup guitarist to take his place.
In addition to news that SUGIZO will be joining the band for Coachella, former X JAPAN members HIDE and TAIJI will also be participating in the performance. The two will appear as holograms, creating a one-of-a-kind stage never before attempted by the band.
X JAPAN's performance at Coachella is supposed to be the band's grand return to the world stage. The band had been taking it easy over the past year due to YOSHIKI's emergency spinal surgery last year which left him unable to play on the drums.
In an interview with Oricon, YOSHIKI admitted that although he has been cleared to play the drums, he is still not back to his pre-surgery abilities. Despite this, he still decided to take on the Coachella stage due to its prominence and the opportunity to raise its profile overseas
