lynch., a Japanese band formed in August 2004, released its latest album "D.A.R.K. – in the name of evil" on October 7th in Japan. But this wasn't good news only for Japanese fans. European fans as well can get their hands on a copy of this album since European label OKAMI RECORDS released the European version on October 16th. More details can be found below, but let's talk about the album itself first!
JPA: Please introduce yourself first. And please tell us one thing you’re into these days! Hazuki: I’m lynch.’s vocalist Hazuki. I’m into abdominal muscle training lately. Reo: I’m guitarist Reo. I’m into profiling my Kemper AMP. Yusuke: I’m guitarist Yusuke. I really like reading the Manga “ONE PIECE”. Akinori: I’m bassist Akinori. Recently I like to go swimming in the gym. Asanao: I’m drummer Asanao. I’m not into anything particular right now.
JPA: On October 7th you’ve released your new album “D.A.R.K. – in the name of evil“. Please describe your album in three words. Hazuki: Dark, Evil, Beauty Reo: Dark, Evil, Catchy Yusuke: Dark, Evil, Catchy Akinori: Individual, Evil, Dark Asanao: Dark, Bright, Catchy
JPA: Among the songs included on this new album, which ones do you want people definitely listening to? Hazuki: COSMOS Reo: COSMOS Yusuke: All! Akinori: I want everyone to listen to all songs in the order we’ve put them on the album.
JPA: You are using many English titles. Do you use English to express your thoughts in the songs? And do you actively study English? Hazuki: This might be the way of thinking of a Japanese person but I think you have more possibilities to express things in English without limits. I study English every day. Reo: I understand English just as much as I’ve studied it in school. Yusuke: I’m bad at English. Akinori: I don’t really do that. Asanao: English is all Greek to me.
JPA: How long did it take for the album to be finished? Hazuki: Starting with composing the songs it took about one year. Reo: About half a year. Yusuke: Everyone started composing in summer last year, so I think it took about one year. Asanao: Recording the drum part took four days.
JPA: Was there anything funny that happened during the production of the album? Hazuki: There wasn’t anything particular. Reo: We finished a new song during the recording of the drum part. Akinori: When the deadline came close I was at my wits’ end (laughs)
JPA: We’ve heard that your song “BEAST“ is the theme song of a horror movie titled “fukushuu shitai”. Do you like horror movies? Are you interested in composing more songs for movies? Hazuki: I like the American remake of “Ring” and own the DVD. Of course I’m interested in composing more theme songs for movies. Reo: I don’t really watch horror movies but I want to watch “fukushuu shitai”. Yusuke: I like Horror! If we get the opportunity I want to do that again. Akinori: I like B-Type Horror Movies but the real ones are scary. Asanao: It’s not that we won’t compose more for movies...
JPA: Since starting being active as lynch. 11 years have passed. How has your sound changed since then? Where do you get your inspiration from? Hazuki: I think the music has changed. We were influenced by the trend back then and while doing that we were searching for our place and composed music. Reo: I think our basis hasn’t changed but with progress of technology we’re able to work more at home now. Yusuke: Of course! Our quality has definitely improved. With years passing by it has become better. Our new songs can be found while watching a movie or driving your car. Akinori: Our old sound has improved together with the latest technology.
JPA: You are part of the Hazuki X Guerillakid collaboration. Do you think you will also collaborate with fashion brands in the future? Hazuki: It’s not like I will collaboration with just any fashion brand. I think if it’s from friends I can trust I will do it.
JPA: Is there any kind of merchandise you haven’t sold yet but would like to? Hazuki: There is a lot. Reo: Instruments. And especially an effector. Yusuke: tattoo tights Asanao: necklace
JPA: lynch. has performed in smaller live houses as well as halls. Which one do you like more? Hazuki: I really love performing in halls but in the end it’s the live houses. Reo: Both have their good points, so I want to perform in both. Yusuke: I like both. Akinori: Both have good points. I like both. Asanao: I want to perform at a wide place.
JPA: This year in summer you’ve performed with MUCC and you will also stand on stage with that band once again in December. Is there any band including oversea bands that you want to perform with? Hazuki: There are a lot. Reo: DIR EN GREY Yusuke: LUNA SEA, DIR EN GREY Akinori: KORN
JPA: If you went on a world tour, where do you want to go to the most? Hazuki: America, and to the holy land of black bass: Mexico. Reo: Germany. I’d like to find out if the German I’ve studied in school would be understood. Yusuke: Irland. Akinori: A country with lots of good food. Asanao: Somewhere in Europe.
JPA: What kind of music or bands are you listening to in your free time? Hazuki: I listen to hard rock as well as to soft music like instrumental songs. Reo: I listen to many different kinds but I barely listen to heavy songs. Yusuke: I like UK-Rock and listen a lot to it. Like U2, Radiohead, MUSE etc. Akinori: I listen to a lot of different kinds of music. Recently my favorite is caravan palace. Asanao: I listen to J-Pop!
JPA: The last question is about your hobby: Fishing. We head that you all like fishing. How often did you go this year? Hazuki: This year around 15 times. Yusuke: I wonder how often I went this year. Akinori: I’m a person that is on the water almost all my days off. Asanao: I went so often I can even count anymore.
JPA: In the end, please give a message for your oversea fans! Hazuki: Let’s meet in person in the near future! Reo: I’m thinking about really wanting to give a live soon right in front of everyone. Please look forward to it and wait for us! Yusuke: I’m dreaming of giving a live in your country one day. Akinori: I definitely want to go to eat all that good food and drink tasty beer and give the best, hottest live. We might have to let you wait longer but please send your supporting voices to Japan until that day comes! Asanao: I’m saying I want to give a live abroad one day but we don’t know when this “one day” will be. But we have the motivation to do it, so please wait patiently for us.
