#ToshI appeared as a guest of this radio show on 3/29/15. The radio show was about ToshI, and the conversation was extended to his book and the hellish experience of having been brainwashed.. yet they talked a lot about Yoshiki and their friendship going all the way back to the first day of kindergarten where they met. As per request, I will share some of the things ToshI mentioned.
He could not remember the first day he met Yoshiki, but by looking back on those days now, he remembers him as being small (smaller and skinnier than ToshI) with fair skins, and cute. In return, Yoshiki remembers ToshI being more active than him.
How they became close friends: They were classmates in kindergarten and elementary school. But if ToshI thinks of it, they got closer in the 5th grade. He was very impressed by Yoshiki when he went to see the Kiss concert all the way to Tokyo from Tateyama. (At that time it was very rare to see Kiss live in such a young age.) ToshI also liked Kiss then, and Yoshiki was the only friend he could talk about rock. On his birthday (still in elementary school), Yoshiki was given a drum set and an electric guitar while ToshI owned only a used folk guitar given by his older brother. So he went to Yoshiki’s house a lot and played Yoshiki’s electric guitar while Yoshiki was drumming. (They were still not musically trained yet, so) they were just playing. They soon formed a band.
In the 8th grade at junior high school, they had an opportunity to perform on stage at school. ToshI played a guitar and Yoshiki was on drums. At that time, they were doing cover songs, including Kiss’s; Yoshiki wrote a medley of the Kiss songs on score. So in a way, it sounded very original. Yoshiki was drumming twice as much faster that its normal beat, actually starting at normal speed and got faster and faster. ToshI was wondering why he was drumming so fast..
During the second year at high school, they began to play their own songs and called the band, “X.”
(ToshI was just talking about this with Yoshiki the day before) When they were performing at the Tokyo Dome the very first time, everybody said it was too early for them to do it there as no rock band had ever performed at the Dome. As everybody was against it, they were firing up to go against it and do it! Starting from the indies era, they have had many objections. They think this triggered them to grow faster as a band.
They talk about #hide a lot among the band members. They feel hide and Taiji will always be with them on stage to rock and fight together .
About X reuniting.. ToshI met Yoshiki in LA to talk about this back then. Both ToshI and Yoshiki had to go through a lot of hardship. He thinks it was just a good timing as both were ready to move on to the next stage and have the first step toward the future by leaving the past behind. If it was not then, it would have been possible that they are not back today. Because of this, they feel stronger ties to each other.
When he was asked about the world tour, ToshI said: “I heard Yoshiki announced it and it seems like there is the world tour.” (jokingly) “I also heard that this may be the last tour.” He talked about this with Yoshiki the day before, and Yoshiki said he was just lead to the question. He does have problems in his wrist and neck, and ToshI has problems too. Yet, X has always been doing each concert as if it were the last show by risking their lives, and they will continue to do the same.
ToshI: The world tour will start this year. Let’s enjoy it together!
